I just read a blog post titled “In an era of feed readers, does blog design still matter?” and found it rather interesting. I hadn’t thought of this before and it should have been so obvious. I read all blogs through a RSS reader, so yeah, I don’t see how most of the blogs I read look. Every so often I surf to a new blog such as Nordljus or design*sponge and the design of them makes my little blog look like the odd duck out. But people go to blogs to read the content, not to look at a good design. Boing Boing, Laughing Squid, and Metafilter aren’t the prettiest blogs out there, but they certainly are among the most popular.
Looking at this year’s “Best Blog Design” nominations in the 2007 Bloggies, I am actually not moved by those designs, but that’s a subjective opinion.
I think with most things, especially on the Internet, it’s important to follow the KISS principle: Keep It Simple, Stupid.
