I’ve always been a big fan of composting and have tried to have a compost pile at places I have lived at. I was pleased to learn that San Francisco encourages residents to put food waste in the green compost bins that come with their trash collection, and the scraps are turned into compost, which is then used to help grow crops in Northern California.
Back in June, I shot photographs for the book cover of Carly Milne‘s next book, Sexography, which is due out in March. I couldn’t mention it all year because Carly requested that I keep mum on the details of the project. The cover art has finally been released, so it’s safe for me to talk about it now.
Here it is! My first book cover!

I bought the cherries at the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market and we sifted through them trying to find the perfect cherry, and practiced ripping them open for the right effect. Carly wanted a lot of juice showing, so I bought a bottle of POM pomegranate juice and applied it with an eyedropper. The pomegranate juice turned out to be too watery, so we tried mixing it with several things to make it thicker; honey, corn syrup, and finally hair gel.
