Many years ago, I learned about the Mojave Phone Booth, a telephone booth out in Hunter Thompson’s Bat Country. Its allure was that it was not near any major roads or intersections, and it soon developed a cult following; people would call the booth, hoping that someone would answer, and others trekked out to the desert to visit the booth and make phone calls from it.
I’ve had it on my list of places to check out for a while. Today, for some reason, I started thinking about it, so I googled it. To my disappointment, the phone booth no longer exists, due to the National Park Service.
I grew up reading my parents' Gourmet and National Geographic magazines, so it is not surprising that I'm passionate about food and traveling. I love taking pictures of food, visiting city markets, trying new cuisines, and learning to cook them when I get back home.
I've picked porcini mushrooms in the hills of Tuscany, participated in tea ceremony in Kyoto while wearing a kimono, and cooked a Thanksgiving meal for 20 in France. (Protip: turkeys are really expensive in France, and French flour doesn't make very good cornbread.)
